Have you had the nagging voices or feelings in the back of your head saying you should be trying to swap out your regular products for a healthier option?? But trying to get our significant other on the same page can be a battle sometimes. Most of us have grown comfortable with what we know and have always used, and most of us are resistive to change. It’s true…and there’s no shame in that…but let’s compare and discuss the importance of label reading, shall we?!
Thieves on the left: Made entirely of plant-based ingredients and essential oils. NO SLS (sodium lareth sulfate), SLES (sodium laurel ether sulfate), dyes, formeldahyde, phosphates, synthetic perfume. If swallowed drink plenty of water to dilute. This sounds like a great option already ❤
Palmolive on the right: Does not even disclose a full list of ingredients (as it’s not required by law). 🤔🤔 Warning label indicates, Do not get in eyes, do not use with chlorine bleach, may irritate eyes and skin, contains ammonium lareth sulfate and isodecyl alcohol ethoxylate (I can hardly pronounce those 🙄), if swallowed contact a poison control center immediately. This has my insides turning and raising one eyebrow… we also have no idea what else this pretty green concoction might contain since no other info is provided 🤢🤢🤢
Now to share some facts on the only 2 listed ingredients. Warnings are usually only listed when there should be some increased concern with general or over-exposure….
Ammonium Lareth Sulfate and Sodium Laurel Sulfate are surfactants commonly found in shampoos and detergents and are used as foaming agents. Undiluted SLS can cause skin and eye irritation, as well as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea if ingested, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Isodecyl alcohol can cause severe skin and eye irritation and is harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Eye/face protection should be worn with use and it is recommended to wash thoroughly after handling. These are just a couple of the toxic chemicals listed.
YIKES!!! Now, which one would you feel safest using on a daily basis, and exposing your children and pets to?? Did you know simply rinsing your dishes is not enough? Residue gets left behind, so every time you eat off of your dishes, or chop your veggies on your “clean” cutting board, you are still ingesting residual chemicals and vapors. YUM!!! I challenge you to take any household cleaner or even personal care product, Flip it over and google any ingredient and see what the risks are to the human body. You’ll be surprised.
But…if I told you that you can get the same cleaning power (if not better) with an natural, risk-free option, would you use it?
Why have you not made the switch yet? 🤷♀️🤷♂️
